Towards Better Democracy

Good words, well written, better the world. Good literature betters the world immeasurably.

Watching Over the Bleeding Body

I stand, the Guardian Angel,
Watching over the bleeding body
I won’t call the doctor
The soul has already left.

The Chickens Come Home to Roost

I do not mean this in the traditional sense
But that the chickens from childhood that were not allowed to grow
Into hens and cocks, to produce between them families,
Each playing a part, nature’s union
These cocks, proud, lovely birds
Alert. Those gleaming, intelligent eyes
Roosters, really, crowing at dawn
To greet, with living joy, each new day,
Guarding their brood
The hens clucking as mother do.
Eggs to lay and chickens to hatch
The surge of life to continue.

Those chickens, having now found a home,
A farmyard safe,
Can finally grow
And begin life anew
After all this time.
