Towards Better Democracy

Good words, well written, better the world. Good literature betters the world immeasurably.

The work seeks to create a balance and yet contrast between three colour fields. Triptychs have a long history across various painting periods. Modern artists who have successfully used this format include Francis Bacon. In the case of this painting, influences are Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko and the Russian Constructivists of the the Twenties and Thirties. The form of the three panels follows the musical form of the sonata where the theme is repeated with variations in each movement. The movement within each panel is of the eye drawn vertically down the panel and then across to each panel in turn. The objective is to achieve harmony through both contrast; the colour variegation in each panel, and by the repetition of elements across the three panels. And reward the viewer with a holistic aesthetic experience.
