Towards Better Democracy

Good words, well written, better the world. Good literature betters the world immeasurably.

Will he be published yet?

He has written poetry since 1982,
Mostly sporadically

Long barren years
A dark night too long
Imprisoned his life
In solitary confinement.

Prolific for a while
A few years ago
Six, seven, in a day
Pouring out onto the
page.

Fear of finding funds
Frightened him

Held him within its freezing,
Icy grip
With which to provide
Roof, shelter, food
And bills to pay
His resume so long
That it would run from here
To Cairo
His age
Nobody wishes to employ
A man of a certain age

But out he came from that
Resilient, bouncing back
A beach ball on the sand
He has stuck to what he holds
True.

And now comes, it seems,
The realisation of his dreams
An offer to be published
His poetry poor, not held
To be amongst those that the
Gods on Olympus judge
To be worthy to join the elect
Those who cream the upper levels
Of our culture.

But he received an offer last night
“If you will help me with my Mac,
Your work I will publish,”

And this offer comes with work
As yet unseen.
