Towards Better Democracy

Good words, well written, better the world. Good literature betters the world immeasurably.

These are the books

These are the books of the mind
This is the inner life
On these shelves, disordered or not
Are the volumes of our life
Or is it lives.

Here are the books in which our stories are told
Happy and sad, joyous or tragic
Of births and deaths, sickness and health
The men and the women we have known
And those we still know, and those we have
Yet to know.

These are tombs that contain our thoughts
All that we have ever thought, that has ever crossed our mind
The trivial and the profound, the mean and the resentful
The distressing and the exhilarating
And all those half thoughts which slipped away
Before they could be grasped
Ending only in ellipses …
