Towards Better Democracy

Good words, well written, better the world. Good literature betters the world immeasurably.

The Personal and the Artist

The Personal and the Artist

All art is personal since any work created by the artist is an expression of that artist as a person. The difference between the personal and the more objective works lies in the view taken by the artist when creating the work. Does the work derive directly from the inner being or has the work a larger viewpoint, encompassing a larger or greater range of concerns?

From the viewer’s perspective, does the work speak directly of the artist or of a broader set of preoccuations and concerns that grip us all? Does the work tell of how the artist feels rather than what the artist thinks?

All art is personal in that each work expresses a concern that the artist has. The work will show whether that concern is of the internal or the external.
